Get to know an Interior Designer: Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen is a British Interior Designer who has designed across the globe.  She also has her own collection of paint, accessories, and a series of books.  In Touch, a book she wrote on how to use texture in your spaces has served as a great inspiration to me for residential interior studio projects.  I love her simple color palettes that look look rich due to the contrasting textures.

Student Spotlight: Molly

Our class just finished up doing a multi-generational house that includes a courtyard and living areas for 3 generations of 1 family.  Molly did a great job with giving her house a contemporary, crisp feel while still using traditional materials.  Her dropped ceiling beams carry your eye along the perimeter of the courtyard and into the rest of the space.  Feel free to leave comments or suggestions, I know Molly would love feedback on her work!

Get to know an Interior Designer: Christopher Coleman

Christopher Coleman is a fresh, funky designer who works out of Brooklyn, New York.  He does mostly residential spaces, with an emphasis on colorful, playful children's rooms.  I love his luxurious bathrooms and dressing rooms too.  His play on textures and new uses of materials {like newsprint wallpaper in the office} is so imaginative and modern.  His goal is to bring affordable, good design to everyone.  His website is graphically beautiful and so easy to navigate.

Get to know an Interior Designer: James Biber

Basically all of us can name a few famous architects- Frank Gehry, I M Pei- but interior designers are not as well known.  So for a new post idea, I will occasionally feature a famous interior designer, with the first being James Biber of Pentagram Architects.  Check out some of his retail and commercial interiors.  I love his attention to detail in the ceilings and how he brands the spaces so well.

Kara Mann Interiors

Thanks to Coco & Kelley I've found a new residential interior designer, Kara Mann.  She has also done the design for a website company, which relates perfectly to our studio's corporate design project.  Check out how she has added interest using minimal materials (like the wood details around each door frame)  yet kept the simplicity that is so similar to our perspectives.  And she even has exit signs (our studio professor pointed out that none of us had exit signs in our perspectives)!
